Darmstadt (AP) – Second division soccer team SV Darmstadt 98 has missed the jump back to second place in the table. The southern Hesse team only managed a 1-1 (1-0) draw against Arminia Bielefeld, who had been relegated to the Bundesliga, and are now fourth with 14 points.
In front of 13,860 spectators, Braydon Manu gave Darmstadt the lead in the 8th minute, which Robin Hack equalized in the fourth minute of added time.
Darmstadt’s dominance in the early stages was rewarded with an early goal from Manu, who slotted the ball through the legs after a pass from Arminen goalkeeper Martin Fraisl by Fabian Schnellhardt. In return, Bryan Lasme missed the quick equalizer when he fired the ball from a few meters after a defense by 98 goalkeeper Marcel Schuhen came too short.
Ten minutes later, Schuhen saved the superior hosts from conceding a goal when he deflected an Oliver Hüsing header. In a hard-fought game, Marvin Mehlem (39th) missed Darmstadt’s second goal.
Even after the half-time break, the game remained open. Bielefeld tried to score, but Hack first failed on shoes (52nd) and later only hit the outer post. Almost with the last action, Hack scored with a fine flick and robbed Darmstadt of the success they believed to be sure.
