Hanover (dpa / lni) – The Left Party has described the federal government’s planned new relief package as half-hearted. “It is not a sufficient answer to the dramatic situation that many people will face in the coming weeks and months in view of price increases and inflation,” said Jessica Kaussen, the left’s top candidate for the state elections in October, on Sunday. “The announced price for a new local transport ticket is far too high and the negotiations on co-financing by the federal states will take far too long to have a decent offer quickly.”

The announced one-off payments and increases in benefits are “a bad joke” given the skyrocketing prices, she said. “The siphoning off of current excess profits in the electricity market is being put off by the EU instead of taking the necessary steps ourselves and immediately. Where are the new measures to stop rising gas prices? And where is the effective tax on the exorbitant profits of the Oil companies? Above all, the announced relief is a lot of hot air.”
