Union in the second round of the cup at home against Heidenheim

Berlin (dpa / bb) – Union Berlin has home rights in the second round of the DFB Cup in the An der Alten Försterei stadium against the second division soccer team 1. FC Heidenheim. This was the result of the draw by DFB President Bernd Neuendorf and para-swimmer Josia Topf as part of the ZDF program “sportstudio reportage” in the German Football Museum in Dortmund on Sunday.

“Due to the many away games in the coming weeks, we are very happy to have a home game. We still know Heidenheim well, they still have the same coach and are a top team in the second division. A good opponent where we will be very focused have to,” said Oliver Ruhnert, managing director of professional football at 1. FC Union Berlin, according to a club statement.

In the first round, the Berliners struggled against the regional league team Chemnitzer FC and only won 2-1 after extra time. In the previous season, the Unioners had failed in the semi-finals by a very narrow margin at RB Leipzig.

Heidenheim had beaten fourth division club FV Illertissen in the first round this year. Coach Frank Schmidt’s team is currently in third place in the 2nd Bundesliga. The second main round of the DFB Cup will take place from October 18th to 19th.
