Berlin (dpa) – Germany’s basketball captain Dennis Schröder wants to give his predecessor Robin Benzing the bronze medal after the home European Championships in Cologne and Berlin. The 29-year-old explained this plan after the 82:69 victory over Poland on RTL. “Actually, he should get this medal. I’ll probably give him mine,” said Schröder.
Longtime captain Benzing was sorted out by national coach Gordon Herbert in August. NBA professional Schröder was subsequently appointed captain of the German team. Benzing attended the final day in Berlin as a spectator. For Germany it is the first medal since silver in 2005 in Serbia.
