Alcaniz (dpa) – The German motorcycle pilot Marcel Schrötter did not score any further world championship points in the Moto2 class after a fall.

The 29-year-old Bavarian from Landsberg lost control of his Kalex machine in the turbulent opening lap of the Aragon Grand Prix and retired. After 21 laps, the Spaniard Pedro Acosta secured the day’s victory in front of his compatriot Aron Canet and world championship leader Augusto Fernandez.

With five races to go, Schrötter is tenth in the overall standings with 101 points. Local hero Augusto Fernandez was able to extend his lead by three points. He now leads the rankings with 214 points ahead of the Japanese Ai Ogura (207), who finished fourth directly behind the Spaniard. In third place overall, Canet (177) is a considerable distance behind the leading duo in the World Championship.
