Attacks on passers-by and emergency services: Arrest

Berlin (dpa / bb) – After attacks on passers-by and an employee of the rescue service, a 34-year-old man was arrested in Berlin-Mitte. The police were called to a rioting people around 6:15 p.m. on Saturday evening, a spokesman said on Sunday. On site, the officials observed how the man hit the rescue service employee. The 23-year-old wanted to help the rioters when they fell. The 34-year-old missed the helper. According to witness statements, the man is said to have rioted in a café and on the way there accosted passers-by and attacked a 25-year-old.

The officers arrested the 34-year-old. Witnesses said he behaved aggressively, police said. The man is said to have knocked over tables in the café. He told the police he was on drugs. He made a confused impression. Because of his mental state, he later came to a hospital.

The police are now investigating the man for physical injury and property damage. Because he is said to have resisted his arrest and a police officer was injured as a result, investigations are also being carried out into a physical attack on law enforcement officials.
