Leverkusen (dpa) – Bayer Leverkusen wants to hold on to Gerardo Seoane for the time being, despite the botched start of the Bundesliga.
“That’s our intention,” said sporting director Simon Rolfes, according to “Kicker” and “Bild” when asked whether the football teacher would still be on the bench for the next Werkself game after the international break on September 30 at Bayern Munich sits.
After a long consultation with his managing director colleague Fernando Carro, however, Rolfes failed to make a clear commitment to Seoane: “We are all extremely dissatisfied. We will analyze the situation clearly, but also calmly and look for solutions together that will bring us back to stability and will lead to success.”
After only five points from the first seven league games, the Bayer team, which was considered a Champions League aspirant before the start of the season, is far behind expectations. Although the pros had fueled hopes of a turnaround in the convincing 2-0 win over Atlético Madrid in the Champions League last Tuesday, four days later they were unable to get beyond a disappointing 1-1 draw at home against newly promoted Werder Bremen.
