Bochum (dpa) – Bundesliga club VfL Bochum has confirmed “initial talks” with candidates for the successor to coach Thomas Reis, but wants the team to continue to be looked after by interim coach Heiko Butscher.
“Heiko did a great job this week and will continue to do it just as well for the time being,” said sports director Patrick Fabian before the Bundesliga home game against 1. FC Köln on DAZN. However, the 34-year-old did not want to reveal more. The requirement profile is more complex than can be presented in a few seconds, said the former Bochum defender.
It is unclear how long Butscher will continue as interim coach. The 42-year-old admitted that “it’s a lot of fun training with a Bundesliga team”, but he also emphasized: “I only do it as long as I’m needed. We communicated that clearly.”
Bochum parted ways with coach Thomas Reis at the beginning of the week after the 3-1 draw against FC Schalke 04 and six defeats in the first six games. It is expected that the bottom of the Bundesliga will present a new coach during the international break.
