Sinsheim (dpa) – Christian Günter reacted disappointed to the non-nomination for the Nations League games of the national soccer team, but wants to continue to recommend himself for the World Cup.
National coach Hansi Flick called him and told him that he was not part of the squad for the international matches against Hungary and England, the SC Freiburg captain said after the 0-0 draw in the Bundesliga at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on the DAZN streaming service. “Obviously that’s not good news,” admitted the defender.
However, Günter has not yet given up hope of participating in the World Cup from November 20th to December 18th in Qatar. He now wants to play in the Freiburg games in the view of the national coach. “I’ll give it my all until winter and hopefully make it even harder for him not to invite me,” said the 29-year-old.
The German Football Association (DFB) selection will play Hungary in Leipzig on Friday and England three days later at London’s Wembley Stadium.
