Interim coach Butscher with six changes against Cologne

Bochum (AP) – Heiko Butscher changed the team of the Bundesliga soccer club VfL Bochum to four positions in his first and possibly only game as interim coach. After the 1: 3 in the previous week under the suspended Thomas Reis at Schalke Butscher exchanged the central defense completely and brought in Tim Oermann and Ivan Ordets for Vasilios Lampropoulos and Erhan Masovic. In addition, Patrick Osterhage and Gerrit Holtmann replaced Philipp Förster and the injured Takuma Asano in the team.

“Very well,” he said, Butscher before his debut as a Bundesliga coach at DAZN. “I have a good impression of the team and I hope that will be confirmed right away,” said the 42-year-old. “We want to be stable, but not become inactive,” said Butscher about the direction of the march. “We did everything to ensure that the team went in highly motivated.” They tried “to get the fun back in football, this great game”.

Cologne coach Steffen Baumgart even made six changes compared to the 4-2 midweek win against FC Slovacko in the Conference League. However, in the game against the Czech Cup winners, he had rested some regular players. Among others, top performers Jonas Hector, Ellyes Skhiri and Florian Kainz are returning.
