Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) – The incidence of officially registered corona infections in Saarland has reached the highest level of the 16 federal states. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in Berlin recorded 449.4 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days on Thursday. A week earlier, the incidence in Saarland was 323.0, and a week earlier it was 240.4. Nationwide, the seven-day incidence as of Thursday was 281.4.
The total number of sick people in Saarland since the beginning of the pandemic rose from 403,265 to 407,644 in a weekly comparison. According to the RKI, the number of deaths from or with a corona disease increased by four to 1842.
The actual extent of Sars-CoV-2 infections is believed to be higher because there are fewer tests. Only positive PCR tests are recorded by the health authorities. In addition, late registrations can lead to the distortion of daily values.
The number of people suffering from Covid increased slightly in the intensive care units of the Saar hospitals: According to the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (Divi), on Thursday there were 17 adult patients – one had to be ventilated. A week earlier, 13 intensive care patients were counted.
