Corona incidence increased in weekly comparison

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – The number of registered new corona infections in Saxony-Anhalt has increased slightly compared to the previous week. According to the overview of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on Thursday, 253.2 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants were registered within seven days. A week earlier, the value was 239.5. Nationwide, the seven-day incidence reached 281.4 on Thursday (previous week: 244.4).

However, the information does not provide a complete picture of the infection situation. Experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI – mainly because not all infected people have a PCR test done. Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics. In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of individual daily values.

The registered incidence of infection differs significantly in the districts in Saxony-Anhalt. The RKI gave the highest incidences nationwide for the Altmark district of Salzwedel with 367.7 and the district of Harz with 321.8. The lowest values were reported for the districts of Wittenberg (191.6) and Anhalt-Bitterfeld (128.5).

According to the RKI, 836,150 infections have been registered nationwide since the beginning of the pandemic. The statistics show a total of 5,700 deaths in connection with a corona infection in the country. Saxony-Anhalt has around 2.17 million inhabitants.

The country’s current containment ordinance is in effect until September 30. Based on the new Infection Protection Act, there will be a new ordinance on October 1, 2022. The measures could be adopted by the cabinet next Tuesday, a government spokeswoman said on Thursday when asked.
