Heynen wants to see "dirty volleyball" from players

Kienbaum (dpa) – national coach Vital Heynen has special ideas for the appearance of his volleyball players at the upcoming world championships.

“I want to see dirty volleyball ,” said the 53-year-old Belgian at a press conference ahead of the tournament in the Netherlands and Poland. “Dirty, but without mistakes”, explained diagonal attacker Lena Stigrot with a laugh. The German volleyball players want to be aggressive at the World Cup. Coach and players agree on that.

On September 25, the team will play the opening match of the preliminary round against Bulgaria (7:00 p.m./Sportdeutschland.tv) in Arnhem, the Netherlands. In the following days it is then against Kazakhstan, Serbia, the USA and Canada. The top four teams in the group advance to the second round of the tournament.

Especially Serbia and the USA are very strong. “We clearly want to get through the preliminary round,” said winger Jennifer Janiska. The team is ready for the upcoming games. “We made good use of the training sessions and I think we’re actually very well prepared.”

With the strength and breadth of the squad, there are a lot of options to start the game and switch. In addition, the variability of the Germans could make it difficult for the opponents. “We’re sort of a grab bag,” said Janiska.
