Aachen / Schwerte (dpa / lnw) – On several motorways in North Rhine-Westphalia, drivers need patience on Thursday: Due to clean-up work after truck accidents, the A1, the A4 and the A30 will remain partially closed for several hours. Traffic was backed up for several kilometers.
A truck trailer caught fire on the A4 near Aachen on Wednesday evening. According to the police, considerable amounts of diesel spilled out. The cleaning work is more complex than expected. The motorway will therefore remain closed in the direction of Cologne. It was initially unclear why the semi-trailer loaded with wood caught fire. Nobody got hurt.
According to the police, only one lane will be free on the A1 near Schwerte in the direction of Bremen until midnight. Two trucks had an accident there on Wednesday evening, one of them caught fire. The roadway was damaged and needs to be repaired. On Thursday, traffic was temporarily backed up for ten kilometers. Motorists should avoid the area as far as possible.
The A30 near Rheine in the direction of the Netherlands should remain closed until late morning due to salvage and cleaning work. According to the police, a 58-year-old left the road at a construction site with his semi-trailer for unknown reasons and rammed the temporary central barrier. The tank and oil pan of the truck were torn open. The diesel ran out, the crash barrier was torn from its anchorage.
