Mourning for Pastor Wolfgang Deutsch

Wolfang Deutsch, a Protestant pastor in Freising for many years, died on September 18 at the age of 87. He worked as a pastor in the Protestant community for 18 years and was not only extremely popular and valued there. His commitment as a pastor in the palliative care ward of the Freising Clinic was great. On the way there and back again he was often seen walking through the city, which he saw as a compensation for this work.

His record as a pastor in Freising, which he once summarized himself, reads as follows: 517 baptisms, 108 admissions, 495 blessings of confirmands, 152 marriages and 388 blessings of church members at their final resting place. When Wolfgang Deutsch retired as pastor at a church service in 1999, there was a standing ovation for him.

Deutsch was born on August 10, 1935 in Pomerania, more precisely in Tutow, he grew up in Moosach. After graduating from high school, he studied Protestant theology, took his first theological exam in Munich in 1960 and then went to the USA for a year as a vicar. His first job took him to the Allgäu. In 1962 his ordination took place in Kempten. Two years later he became – as the first non-servist – a military chaplain in Neuburg an der Donau. In 1967 he moved to Ingolstadt and in 1973 to Rosenheim. In 1981, Deutsch took over the office of executive pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Freising, which at that time still belonged to the Deanery of Landshut. When the Dean’s Office in Freising was founded in 1998, Deutsch took over the position of Dean for one year. After retirement, Wolfgang Deutsch remained active. With the runway opponents, with the action light signs and in the diaconal association.

The funeral service will take place on Sunday, September 25, at 3 p.m. in the Ascension Church.
