Cologne (dpa / tmn) – A wisdom tooth removal is standard among outpatient surgeries. However, depending on the position of the tooth, it can be very complex. The healing then takes a correspondingly long time and can be quite painful. Among other things, with the right diet , patients can do a lot for wound healing, according to the German Society for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (DGMKG).
For example, mild baby food is the best food for the period immediately after the operation. Julius Steegmann, Head of the Sports and Nutrition Department at the DGMKG, then recommends a healthy and protein-rich diet for wound healing. These include, for example, spinach, broccoli, kale and fatty fish such as salmon, herring and trout.
Cold green tea is good
On the other hand, spicy food and alcohol, caffeine, black tea or energy drinks should be taboo. Plenty of water can be drunk because, according to Steegmann, this optimizes the metabolism and extracts all the healing power from the body. Cold green tea is also good and can support the external cooling of the cheek.
It is important to really allow the body to rest completely for a few days after the operation. After that, patients can start again with light exercise such as walks. Walking, cycling or jogging follow later, but contact sports such as football or basketball should be avoided for a few weeks.
