Herten (dpa / lnw) – A couple wanted with an arrest warrant first threatened a taxi driver in Herten near Recklinghausen and then two railway employees in a signal box. The man pulled a knife while driving early Friday evening, the driver then stopped the car and got out, police said. The couple tried in vain to start the car – and fled on foot and then swam through a canal. On the other side of the river, according to the police, one of the two signal box employees asked for his car key. When he refused, a fight broke out.

The 41-year-old and his 32-year-old companion then ran away again and tried to break the window of a car. At that moment, the police came and arrested the two. The taxi driver and the train employee suffered minor injuries, according to the police.
