Bremen (dpa / lni) – Ex-soccer player Ailton (49) will take over the newly created honorary post of ambassador for the Bremen Freimarkt this year. “I played football in Bremen for six years. Being a Bremen Freimarkt ambassador is a new but great role for me,” said Ailton on Friday in Bremen. He does not yet know whether he will wear leather trousers when he visits the Freimarkt. He “also has very nice jeans,” said the Brazilian.
Ailton will open the 987th Freimarkt as ambassador on October 14th and thus the “fifth season”. Under the motto “Ischa Freimaak”, showmen, food stands and marquees invite you to one of the oldest folk festivals in Germany for 17 days on the Bürgerweide. With up to four million visitors, the Freimarkt is also one of the largest folk festivals in Germany. Ailton played for SV Werder Bremen from 1998 to 2004, with whom he also won the German championship title in 2004.
