Milan (dpa) – European soccer champion Italy prevailed in the new edition of the 2021 European Championship final against England 1-0 (0-0) and thus preserved its chances of reaching the semi-finals of the Nations League .
At the same time, the Azzurri sealed England’s relegation to League B in Germany Group 3.
Giacomo Raspadori scored Italy ‘s winner on Friday night at Milan’s Giuseppe Meazza Stadium. The 22-year-old striker scored in the 68th minute after a strong reception of the ball.
This means that on the last day of the group match there will be a semi-final between Hungary and Italy. The Hungarians won 1-0 (1-0) against the German national team in Leipzig and claimed first place with ten points. Italy are now on eight points and need a win over Hungary to advance to the last four.
England had more possession in the first half but didn’t create convincing chances. That changed after the break. However, it was Federico Dimarco who almost scored Italy’s second with a shot against the post five minutes from time.
In League B, Bosnia-Herzegovina was promoted directly to League A. Head coach Ivajlo Petev’s team scored a 1-0 (1-0) home win against Montenegro in Group 3. Augsburg’s Ermedin Demirovic scored the winning goal in added time in the first half.
