New tenant found for Fichtelberghaus

Oberwiesenthal (dpa/sn) – The Fichtelberghaus on the summit of Saxony’s highest mountain will remain open to guests this winter. After the extraordinary termination of the previous tenant, a new operator was found with the Oberwiesenthal lift company, the district office of the Erzgebirge district announced on Friday. She will take over the traditional house on November 1st, all previous employees can continue to work. The hotel and restaurant will also be open to guests in the upcoming winter season.

The district owns the Fichtelberghaus. The previous tenant family announced a few days ago that they would close the hotel from October 17th. As the reason for her withdrawal after 20 years, she had referred to deficiencies in fire protection, which the owner urgently needed to rectify. “This requires extensive and time-consuming construction work, in which business operations are not possible,” it said. The extent to which construction measures are specifically planned was not clear from the notification from the district office. This was not available on Friday afternoon.

According to reports, a closing time is initially planned in November in order to prepare for the new season. After that, the Fichtelberghaus is expected to reopen in early December.
