Pair runners Efimova/Blommaert in second place

Oberstdorf (dpa) – The German pair skating runners-up Alisa Efimova/Ruben Blommaert immediately took second place in their first international competition.

At the Nebelhorn Trophy in Oberstdorf on Friday, they finished two points ahead of their teammates Annika Hocke/Robert Kunkel, who fell back from first place after the short program. Deanna Stellato-Dudek/Maxime Deschamps from Canada secured victory with 192.74 points. 22 years ago, Stellato-Dudek had won silver as a single skater at the Junior World Championships in Oberstdorf.

Efimova/Blommaert from Oberstdorf by choice convinced in the free program for “Private Investigations”, although they wobbled in the solo jumps and moved up from third place after the short program (186.17 points). “We have waited two years and we are very happy that we can now compete,” said Blommaert. Efimova previously ran for Russia and had to wait two years for her clearance. “It was very important that we could make a start,” said the 23-year-old.

Nikita Starostin (Dortmund) finished ninth in the men’s competition, moving up three places after the short program, despite falling while doing the triple axel. The third in the German Championships scored 184.96 points. The Canadian Keegan Messing jumped from third place to the top after the short program and won the Nebelhorn Trophy for the second time after 2018 (245.74 points).
