A few weeks ago, when the Munich Olympic Park was smoldering with euphoria , the Swiss newspaper Le Temps published a remarkable article : The “superb” multi-European championships – more than 200,000 spectators in athletics alone, athletes with heart and success – were said to be little more than a “beautiful interlude” for the hosts.
